Instruction is for complete beginners, and focuses on basic survival English skills, with an emphasis on speaking:

• greetings and introductions
• people in the family
• places in the home and community
• numbers, time, money, and shopping.
• food, weather, clothing, everyday activities

Classes follow a 12-week fall and spring academic year schedule. Classes are 90 minutes long and meet on two weekdays each week, providing a total of 36 hours of instruction per semester. Classes are taught by a team of English At Large volunteer teachers.

All classes are free, and registration is required. Students commit to attending classes regularly in order to participate.
