First Thursday Book Club

Thursday, February 27:00—8:30 PMLecture HallBeebe Library345 Main Street, Wakefield, MA, 01880

Third and Fourth Graders, along with a favorite adult, are invited to join Beebe Library's First Thursday Book Club.

Share the love of reading in your family! We will be reading some of the very best middle grade books and explore beyond the plot to seek the themes, the authors' secret purpose, and what makes each book special. Along with the discussion, there will be a craft or activity and a snack to take home that goes along with each month's book.

The book is The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick. Hugo, an orphan who secretly takes care of the clocks and lives in the walls of a Paris station survives because he is invisible. His life changes when he is noticed by a bookish girl and a mean old man who runs a toy shop in the station. A mysterious drawing, a notebook full of technical drawings, and a strange mechanical man, form a mystery Hugo is desperate to solve at all cost. Told in a blend of illustrations, words and cinematic art techniques, this book is the first chapter book to win the coveted Caldecott Award for illustration.

Registration for this event has now closed.
