Freedom to Read ‘em - A Banned and Challenged Graphic Novel Book Club
Thursday, July 217:00—8:30 PMLecture HallBeebe Library345 Main Street, Wakefield, MA, 01880
For kids entering grades 5-7 in the fall.
We will be reading some great graphic novels and explore beyond the plot to seek the themes, the authors' secret purpose, what makes each book special, and why it has been challenged or banned. Along with the discussion, there will be a craft or activity and a snack that goes along with each month's book.
This month: Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle.
Graphic Novel version by Hope Larson. The original book, published in 1962, was the first work of science fiction to win the coveted Newbery Medal and the Lewis Carroll Award. Meg, her brother Charles Wallace, and friend Calvin, embark on a journey, literally through time and space; darkness and light; and good and evil to find and rescue their scientist father. A mind challenging and important work of literature.
