Healthy Habits for Healthy Aging with Dr. Katie Wadland

Tuesday, February 27:00—8:30 PMONLINEBeebe Library345 Main Street, Wakefield, MA, 01880

"Don't get old." This is a statement Katie Wadland hears time and time again from the older adults she works with as a Geriatric Physical Therapist. Growing older is too often associated with aches, pains, fatigue and chronic illness. However, there are choices we make, every day, that can either help you age successfully or add to its burden. Join Katie Wadland, Doctor of Physical Therapy, for a no-nonsense look at how we can choose healthy habits to encourage healthy aging. She will cover how our nutritional needs change as we age and how to use food and hydration to promote better health. She will also discuss how exercise and activity can keep you feeling better, maintain your independence, and help you prevent falls. Lastly, she will discuss the important topics of health literacy, mental health, and community resources and discuss how to better manage your chronic medical conditions, prevent and manage depression, and access the help you need to help you age-in-place safely at home.

This is a virtual event. You will be sent a Zoom link approximately two hours before the start time.

Katie Wadland is a Doctor of Physical Therapy with over thirteen years of experience in inpatient, outpatient and home care rehabilitation settings. She has worked at some of the region's best hospitals and home care agencies including Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital and Beth Israel Lahey Health at Home. She has expertise working with older adults, people with neurological disorders and other complex medical issues. She is the Owner of Healthy Aging Essentials Physical Therapy (HAE/PT), and provides in-home physical therapy and wellness services for people living in Wakefield and surrounding towns. She places great value on the holistic management of the individuals she works with; each patient is more than the pain they are experiencing or the disability they are dealing with. Dr. Wadland enjoys working with her patients to achieve meaningful goals, use exercise as medicine, and to become stronger, fitter and more functional.
