A Night of Jazz Manouche: The Music of Django

Django Reinhardt was a Belgian born guitarist who was best known for the music he made in France during the 1930s and 40s. Django was a virtuoso who pioneered a style of swing that would come to be known as Jazz Manouche or more commonly in the U.S. as "Gypsy Jazz". Django was part of a Romani tribe called the Sinti and began playing music at an early age while living in their caravan camps. His unique approach to American jazz is just one of many reasons his music is still loved today by so many.

This Thursday, at the Beebe library, a group of Boston's most prominent musicians of this style will perform Django's music as well as other works of the time period. The group will consist of violin, accordion, bass and guitar; an excellent instrumentation to represent the style. Come down for some lively, swingin', sweet tunes.
