Plaza Jazz returns to Thursday nights!

This week, Transcontinental Duo (Hiroko Kajimoto, flute, and Igor Golger, guitar) will be performing on the Plaza.

Performer bios:

Hiroko Kajimoto graduated from the Osaka College of Music, and then went on to Boston Conservatory, where Igor Golger was studying guitar to supplement his urge of building guitars. They formed a duo, playing mostly classical repertoire, but they have since gravitated toward less academic music: both cultivated the skill of learning music by ear, which gave them access to unpublished repertoire of tangos, choros, russian gypsy music, songs from obscure movie soundtracks, and the like.

Because so much of the Transcontinental Duo's repertoire comes from South America, they've once been invited to present a concert in a series "With Latin Roots", even though the only roots they have attached to South America are purely musical. They've also been invited once to represent russian 7-string guitar repertoire in a guitar festival in Merida, Mexico. And when performing in Japan, they can carry a crowd away playing pop songs spanning two generations.

Igor performs on a Brazilian 7-string and a Russian 11-string guitars of his own make; Hiroko plays mostly flute, but she can also handle the quena, sanponya, trumpet, trombone, guitar, piano, and castanets, in some combinations - simultaneously!
