Skype a Scientist: Coral Reefs (VIRTUAL PROGRAM)
Tuesday, January 136:30—7:30 PMONLINEBeebe Library345 Main Street, Wakefield, MA, 01880

This is a Virtual Program.
Coral reefs are diverse and intricate collections of species that interact with one another and with the physical environment. Join us as Dr. Alex Good, a postdoctoral Researcher, explains the vibrant ecosystems of coral reefs, her research, and how we can protect and preserve this vital aspect of underwater life.
Short Bio
Alex is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Stony Brook University applying seascape modeling methods to track stony coral tissue loss disease through the U.S. Virgin Islands and coral larval dispersal predictions to guide evidence-based coral reef restoration design. She earned her Ph.D. in Marine Biology from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, where she studied how local and global stressors affect the physiology of the Hawaiian rice coral and Texas Eastern oyster. She also developed a high school coral reef curriculum in Texas to engage underrepresented students in STEM. Alex holds a BSc and MSc in Marine Science from the University of Delaware; her master’s research in Fiji tested 3D-printed corals for restoration. Before graduate school, she taught 8th-grade science in Boston, sparking her passion for science communication.
