International Women’s Day Event (VIRTUAL)
Tuesday, March 87:00—8:00 PMONLINEBeebe Library345 Main Street, Wakefield, MA, 01880
Join the Wakefield Human Rights Commission for its annual commemoration of International Women’s Day (IWD). The WHRC, with technical assistance from WCAT and Beebe Library, will present a virtual program that features a panel of local women whose families immigrated to the U.S. from around the world. Learn about their experiences, challenges and achievements.
Our panelists are (with their families’ countries of origin noted in parentheses) Teresa Aravena-Gonzalez (Chile), Stephanie South (Germany), Cindy Chou Rodrigue (China), Saritin Rizzuto (Dominican Republic) and Summer Al-Attal (Jordan). Town Councilor Mehreen Butt (Pakistan) will serve as moderator.
The 2022 IWD theme is “Break the Bias” which asks you to imagine a gender equal world:
• A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.
• A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
• A world where difference is valued and celebrated.
• Together we can forge women's equality.
• Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.
Before the event, please think about, "What can we do to help break the biases against women whose families immigrated to the US?". During the presentation, share your suggestions in the Zoom chat so that we can share these positive messages with the community.
