Commit to Your Community Book Discussion: Symphony for the Man

Wednesday, February 247:00—8:00 PMONLINEBeebe Library345 Main Street, Wakefield, MA, 01880

This online book discussion is part of our Commit to Your Community program series. We're in Chapter 2: Act with Compassion.

To wrap up this chapter of our series, we'll be discussing Sarah Brill's Symphony for the Man, a poignant and gritty tale of homelessness and shelter, of the realities of loneliness and hunger, and of the hopes and dreams of those who often go unnoticed on our streets. This is the story of two outcasts – one a young woman struggling to find her place in an alien world, one an older man seeking refuge and solace from a life in tatters. It is also about the transformative power of care and friendship, and the promise of escape that music holds.

Request a copy or find it on OverDrive and then join us on Zoom (link will be sent at 5 pm that day).

Prefer nonfiction? We'll also be discussing the Pulitzer Prize-winning book Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City by Matthew Desmond on Wednesday, January 27 at 7:00 pm. Request your copy and sign up here to join the conversation.
